Journal For 3rd
Week of February
This week I came across
a new game called ‘The Binding of Isaac’, which was recommended to me by Tee
Wei Fai. The story is about Isaac and his mother who live on the top of a hill.
Isaac would play with his toys while his mother would watch religious
broadcasts. One day, his mother heard a voice coming from the sky when she was
watching religious broadcasts. She heard that God commanded her to kill Isaac,
her only son, as a sacrifice to prove that she is loyal to Him.
As a result, she
grabbed a butcher knife and entered Isaac’s room immediately. Isaac saw his
mother coming with a knife in her hand through the crack on his door. He
searched for an exit and he found a trapdoor to his house’s basement and
without hesitating, he jumped in to save himself.
The game requires the
player to control Isaac, a baby, to shoot ‘tears’ and avoid the various
monsters’ attacks deftly throughout the game. I wouldn’t say that it is an
exciting game, but The Binding of Isaac’s strength lies in the part where the
controls for Isaac work precisely and the input given at any split second could
result in either Isaac’s death or survival.
It isn’t a pretty good
game, compared to the last title ‘Super Meat Boy’ developed by the same
developers, which was a hit in the international markets. Anyway, good job, Wei
Fai. Once again, you proved that you never fail to come up with FANTASTIC games for me.
Thank you. =]
